...sixties and sunny with a light breeze. I can't believe how beautiful Rome is. There are ruins and ancient buildings everywhere! This is part of the Forum, just minutes away from where I'm staying.
After wandering around there, I walked to the Trevi Fountain, the immediate vicinity of which seemed to be populated entirely with middle-aged Japanese women eating large cups of gelato.
On the way to find lunch, I passed by the Spanish steps.
At a little café I got a panino with mozzarella and zucchini flowers! It was so simple, just those three ingredients, but the bread was fresh and the cheese was soft and delicious.
There are gelaterias everywhere in Rome, and after passing about fifty I had to try some: peach and chocolate mousse.
From there I wandered through the Borghese gardens, a big public park in the city.
It was so green, and there were cool fountains like this one.
Not too far away was the Pantheon, an architectural marvel that was designed such that it could hold a perfect sphere.
It was fun to see the inside of a famous building I'd only read about in art history textbooks.
Then, my favorite part of the day: the Museo Borghese, which has several sculptures by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. They are incredible! The bodies look so real, it seems like you could touch them and expect to feel the softness of a person.
There was a pretty garden there too, with big lemons...
...and teeny lemons.
After hours of walking, I needed a snack! I could have had one of these artfully assembled sandwiches...
...but instead I had this!
Soon we are going out for pizza for dinner! Tomorrow, the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and the Roman Forum.
